The basics.

01

What is WSDP?

+

Women's Self-Defence Perth teaches practical self-defence to women — through public workshops, workplace workshops, and our book Created By Women Tested On Men.

We're not a martial arts club. Everything we teach was built specifically for women and pressure-tested against larger, stronger partners. If a technique relies on strength, it doesn't make the cut.

Who can come?

+

Any woman, any age, any size, any fitness level, any experience. That isn't a marketing line — it's the design brief. If you can walk into the room, the session is built for you.

I've never done anything like this. Will I keep up?

+

Yes. Most of the room will be first-timers, every drill is optional, and everything moves at your pace. Nobody gets singled out, and nobody gets thrown in.

Honestly — the women who feel most nervous walking in are usually the ones who get the most out of it.

What's actually covered?

+

Three things, in this order:

  • Awareness — reading a situation early, when you still have options
  • Your voice — setting boundaries and de-escalating, which resolves most situations before they escalate
  • Physical technique — simple, practical skills drilled on pads, for when everything else has failed

Are there age restrictions?

+

Our public workshops are for teenagers and adult women.

The workshop.

02

When and where are they?

+

The first Saturday of every month, 9:00–10:30am, in locations around Perth. Doors open 8:45am — please arrive by 8:55 so we can start on time.

The exact venue address goes out in your confirmation email. See all 2026 dates →

How do I book?

+

Straight through the website — pick your date, pay securely, and your confirmation lands in your inbox with the address and everything you need. Book a workshop →

What should I bring?

+
  • Comfortable clothes you can move in — leggings, t-shirt, runners
  • A water bottle — you'll be moving for most of the 90 minutes
  • Nothing else. We provide all the equipment.

Why only 14 places?

+

Because confidence isn't built standing at the back of a crowded room. Fourteen means everyone gets coaching, repetition and personal attention — the things that actually make a skill stick.

Can I come alone? Can I bring someone?

+

Both. Plenty of women come on their own — the room is friendly by about 9:05. Plenty bring a friend, sister or daughter, too.

What if I can't make it any more?

+

Full refund up to 7 days before the workshop. Inside 7 days, we'll transfer your place to a future date — just reply to your confirmation email.

Is 90 minutes really enough?

+

Enough to change how you carry yourself — which is the point. You'll leave with awareness habits you'll use the same week, boundary-setting language you can use immediately, and physical techniques you've actually drilled rather than watched.

The book is there if you want to keep going at home.

Pricing & the code.

03

What does a workshop cost?

+

$70 per person. That covers the full 90 minutes, all equipment, and take-home reference materials.

If you own our book, it's $45.

How do I get the $45 book-owner price?

+

Every print edition of the book comes with a unique discount code. Enter it at checkout and the price drops from $70 to $45 automatically — $25 off.

One code per person, valid 12 months from your book purchase. Digital-only copies don't include a code — it comes with the paperback and combo editions.

How do I pay?

+

Securely by card at checkout. Your card details go straight to our payment provider — they never touch our systems. Corporate bookings can also be paid by invoice.

The book.

04

What's in it, and what does it cost?

+

Created By Women Tested On Men is 112 full-colour illustrated pages covering the whole syllabus — awareness, voice, the freeze response, and step-by-step techniques.

Three formats: digital $14.99, paperback $29.99, or both for $39.99. See the formats →

Is the digital version the same as the paperback?

+

Same 112 pages, same illustrations, same content. The difference is delivery — digital arrives instantly by email; the paperback is posted, and it's the one you can practise from and keep.

The one other difference: only print editions include the $25 workshop code.

How long does delivery take?

+

3–5 business days Australia-wide via Australia Post, with a confirmation email when it ships. Or collect your copy free at any workshop.

Can I buy it as a gift?

+

It's one of our most common orders — daughters moving out, friends travelling, sisters starting uni. Add a second copy at checkout for a discount, and we can post it to a different address. The code inside means it's a gift that comes with a next step.

Workplace workshops.

05

Do you run sessions for workplaces?

+

Yes — we come to you, anywhere in Perth metro, and bring all the equipment. Three formats from a 60-minute Lunch & Learn to a half-day program. Formats and pricing →

Can we pay by invoice or purchase order?

+

Yes — most organisations do. Email us your details and we'll raise a tax invoice, with a certificate of currency supplied. Or book the standard workshop by card in one step.

Is it suitable for mixed teams?

+

Yes. Corporate sessions are open to all staff — and because every technique is designed to work for a smaller defender, it works for everyone in the room. Participation is always optional.

Safety & who we are.

06

Are the workshops women-only?

+

All participants are women. Sessions are led by our head instructor Kyri, who is a man — and that's exactly the point of our name.

Created by women means every technique was shaped by women's experiences and feedback. Tested on men means it then had to work for a smaller, lighter person against a larger, stronger, uncooperative partner. The full story →

Will I get hurt?

+

No. Every drill happens in a controlled environment with an experienced instructor, all striking is done on pads, and participation in any physical drill is entirely your choice.

If you have an injury or condition, tell us on arrival and we'll adapt around it.

Are you insured and qualified?

+

Yes — 25+ years teaching martial arts, current first aid certification, a current Working With Children Check, and $20M public liability insurance. Certificate of currency available on request.

How do I hear about future workshops?

+

The 2026 dates page lists every workshop for the year, so you can plan ahead. Or email us and we'll let you know when new dates open.
